2010 Minerva Scholarship

Dear Student, Parents and Educators:
On behalf of the Central Jersey Alumnae (CJA) Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., we are proud to announce the availability of our 2010 Minerva Scholarship Award applications. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a public service sorority, founded in 1913, whose members are dedicated to serving the communities in which we live. CJA has awarded over $200,000 in scholarship awards to deserving African-American high school seniors in Middlesex, Somerset and Union Counties.
Below is a link to our application for 2010. Please make this application available to both male and female African-American students planning to attend college. Applications are also available on our website: www.cjadeltas.org. Students are encouraged to access the application on-line and return the typed application with the other required documents to the address below; however, for students who do not have access to a computer, an application is enclosed. This application may be copied to accommodate the number of students wishing to apply.
To be eligible for consideration for an interview, the students must complete the following:
- Scholarship application including personal statement and essay
Two letters of recommendation (minimum of one recommendation must be from a teacher or counselor) - Official high school transcript sealed which must include the official SAT scores or verification of the SAT scores by the Guidance Counselor signed and sealed in an official school envelope (minimum GPA equivalent to a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale)
- Parents' or Guardians' 2009 Tax Return(s) or, 2009 W-2 forms with 2008 Filed Tax Return(s)
Application and materials must be postmarked by March 20, 2010: The selection will be based on several factors including financial need, academic strength, personal statement and essay, extracurricular activities, and community service. Those chosen to proceed to the final phase of the selection process will be asked to participate in an interview to be held this spring.
